 On Saturday nights, Mama would make me go to church.

神が助けてくださる

 Now God is gonna see you the rest of the way.

杖や支えがなくても彼は立てる

 He's gonna see this little old man walk without the use of a crutch or a cane.

神の御業で歩くことができるのだ

 He's gonna see that you walk from faith and divine inspiration alone.

歩いて

 Now walk.

触るな

 Don't touch him.

立ち上がるのだ

 RIse up, old man.

ラザロのように

 Rize up like Lazarus.

さあ立ち上がるのだ

 I said, rise up!

ハレルヤ!

 Say hallelujah.

歩いて

Walk .

この日のことはまさに奇跡だった

 Now when I look back on it, it was miraculous.

だが神は与え そして奪う

 But you know saying: The Load giveth and the Load taketh away.

神をたたえよ・・・

 Praise be to God in the highest!

誕生日の日

 There were so many birthdays.

ロウソクは1本と決まっていた

 So we wouldn't run out, we would spare the candles.

誕生日もケーキもわしは大嫌いだ

 Queenie, you know I don't like birthdays, and I don't like cake.

死は常に訪れた 人は去り 人は来た

 And death was a common visitor. People came and went.

誰かが去るといつも静寂が訪れた

 You always knew when someone left us. There was a silence in the house.

ありがたいことにーー

 It was a wonderful place to grow up

まわりは皆若さとは無縁だった

I was with people who had shed all the inconsequences of earlier life.

彼らが気にするのは天気やお風呂の湯加減ーー

 Left wondering about the weather, the temperature of a bath...

夕空のことだ

 ...the light at the end of a day.

そして誰かが死ぬと誰かがやって来た

 For every one that died, someone would come to take their place.

 おれは5回結婚をした

 I've been married five times.

5番目の妻と俺は隣村の食人族に捕まってね

 My first wife and I are captured by a neighbor tribe of cannibals.

川を渡って逃げたが妻は泳げずに食べられた

 We escaped across the river.

My wife, she can't swin so, sadly, she eaten.

2番目はコブラにかまれて・・・

My second wife steps on cobra and dies.

 皆ツイてない

It was very bad luck to be married to me.

 That's Mr. Oti. He's an acquaintance  of an acquaintance of mine.

ピグミー族

 He's a Pygmy.

食料と交換にアメリカ人に売り飛ばされた

 They trade us for pigs, shoes, and beer to a very strange American man.

 

見た目は老人だが若いんだってな

I hear you're not so old as you're looking.

 Worms.

 Then I'm in the monkey house at Philadelphia Zoological Park.

公開初日には3千人が見に来た

 Three thousand people show up my first day.

動物園をでてからはあちこちーー

 Then I leave zoo, go here, go there.

渡り歩いた

Wandered most of the time.

ひとりで?

それが人生さ

人と違う人生はなおさらだ

 When you're different like us,

だがいいか

太った奴 ヤセた奴 背が高い奴ーー

 Fat people, skinny people, tall people...

そして白人でも 人は皆孤独だ

孤独を恐れている

 I think about the river I grew up on.
